Despite the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spinners combining for 2/37 in seven overs, left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja claimed that the conditions in Lucknow on April 14 (Monday) against LSG weren’t gripping for spinners. The left-arm spinner, who finished with figures of 2/24 in three overs, insisted that the wicket was rather very good for the batters and reckoned that it would become better.
“The wicket was very good, the ball wasn't gripping at all as there's dew around. Tried to bowl in good areas, was thinking what the batsman was going to do. Just kept changing my line and length,” Jadeja said in the mid-innings chat with the broadcasters.
CSK’s all-rounder also revealed that the key to his success was keeping it simple and disciplined, something that helped him.
“I knew they were going to play over square or play the reverse sweep, I was keeping that in my mind and bowling accordingly. The wicket is very good, think the bowlers need to be disciplined,” he added.
Jadeja also gave insights into the run chase, stating that the five-time IPL winners need to play good cricketing shots. Not just that, the left-handed batter insisted that he might have to ‘bat higher’ because of the lack of batting depth for CSK.
“The outfield is very quick. They (LSG batters) have been in good rhythm, so I tried to bowl simple and tight lines. I might bat higher today, we just need to play good cricketing shots.
Despite the spinners combining well, the five-time IPL winners ended up conceding 166/7, a score that they will feel is at least 10 runs more than they would have anticipated.
