Mitchell Marsh will only be able to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as a specialist batter instead of an all-rounder as his back problem has not yet been fixed permanently, despite him resting for the better part of January and entire February 2025.
Marsh, after he was left out of Australian playing 11 for the fifth and final Test against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, played two T20s for his Big Bash League (BBL) side, the Perth Scorchers. But since then, on the advice of his doctor, he has been resting to give some time to his disc to get better.
In a report, ESPNCricinfo wrote, “Marsh saw a back specialist in early February and underwent a period of rest to try and settle the problem. He has returned to batting in recent weeks and has been cleared to play in the IPL for LSG as a batter only.”
Marsh has been suffering from "lower back pain and dysfunction" since Australia’s limited overs tour of the United Kingdom in September 2024. It was this reason only that ruled him out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Marsh was bought for INR 3.4 Cr by the Lucknow Super Giants in an IPL Mega Auction after his team, Delhi Capitals, did not retain him or use the Right To Match Card to rebuy him.
Since making his IPL debut way back in 2010, injury-prone Marsh has been able to play only 42 IPL matches.
