Will MS Dhoni Be A Good Coach? Rajeev Shukla Answers
BCCI’s vice-president Rajeev Shukla spoke about the prospect of MS Dhoni as a coach and politician
Great leaders often become great commanders. But in sports, illustrious players rarely become great coaches, which is why very few star players turn their attention to becoming head coaches.
With MS Dhoni, 43, on the last leg of his playing days, there are strong rumours that the former Chennai Super Kings’ skipper could slip into the coaching role in the future. BCCI’s vice-president Rajeev Shukla jumped on the bandwagon, saying Dhoni might not enter coaching.
“I don’t think MS Dhoni will enter coaching. But if he has his mind in it, he can do it all. He has the respect of all players, so he can,” Shukla told BeerBiceps on his YouTube channel.
On the other hand, Shukla revealed that Ravi Shastri’s success as a coach was because of his ‘aura’ and ‘positive’ attitude in the dressing room. While comparing Shastri’s reign to Greg Chappell’s, the BCCI vice-president pressed upon the big difference between the two camps - politics.
“Ravi Shastri became a successful coach because of his aura; he was already a top commentator. He was always positive; he didn’t discriminate against any players. That was the allegation against Greg Chappell, that he pushed the youngsters against the senior players. There was no politics in Shastri’s dressing room, and the communication was clear. The coach has to be a father figure,” he said.
However, when asked about Dhoni as a politician, Shukla insisted that the 43-year-old could make a good living out of becoming a politician.
“I feel Dhoni can become a politician. It is up to him if he will become a politician or not. Sourav, I always felt he would enter Bengal politics. Dhoni can also be good in politics. He will win easily, he is popular. I don't know if he will enter politics, it is purely in his hands,” Shukla said.
“I asked him once that I heard that he was going to contest for Lok Sabha seat, he said ‘No, no, no’. It is nature to stay hidden, he doesn't even keep a mobile phone with him. It was even hard for the BCCI selectors to approach him, as there was no mobile with him. It is his nature to go away from fame or whatever is his nature. He is not a hermit. He does things seriously, there is no lightness in it,” Shukla concluded.
