NEWSFast bowling great Curtly Ambrose has remarked that West Indies will not return to the top of the cricketing world as the current lot do not understand how much the game means to the Carribean people.
"Most of the youngsters we have now probably don’t quite understand what cricket means to West Indians in the West Indies and abroad because cricket is the only sport that really unites Caribbean people," Ambrose said on the Talk Sports Live show in Antigua.
Ambrose, who represented the Windies in 98 Tests and claimed 405 wickets, felt that it will be very difficult to find talented players of the dominant era in the 1980s.
"This is no disrespect to the players we have now because we have a couple of guys who have some quality in them and can become great, but what we have to understand is that I don’t think we will ever see those great, exceptional glory days again," the former Windies bowling coach said.
West Indies are currently eighth in the ICC Test and ODI rankings and tenth in the T20I rankings.
