NEWSCricket Windies (CWI) have announced that they will host South Africa, Australia, and Pakistan in a marathon home summer from June before hosting the 2021 edition of the Caribbean Premier League in August.
While South Africa will be the first nation to travel in June to play two Tests, followed by five T20Is in Grenada from June 26 to July 3, Australia will make their first Caribbean visit in five years to play five T20Is as well as three ODIs, starting on July 9 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St Lucia.
"Following the successful hosting of the all-format series against Sri Lanka earlier this year, we are delighted to announce that we are set to welcome South Africa, Australia and Pakistan to the West Indies," Johnny Grave, CWI CEO, said in a release.
The Australia series will continue for 15 days and all the 20-over matches will be played in St. Lucia, with the five T20Is serving as a vital preparation for the T20 World Cup to be played in October this year. The three ODIs, which are part of the ODI Super League, will be played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. The first ODI will be played on July 20 followed by the next two games on July 22 and 24 respectively.
CWI have also announced that Pakistan will play a five-match T20I series just after the Australia tour, with the first two matches set to be played in Barbados. Both the teams will shift their bases to Guyana where they will play the last three games. The 2021 Caribbean Premier League will follow Windies' two-match Test series against Pakistan.
"To host three international teams back-to-back in five territories is unprecedented, and putting these fixtures together was an enormous Covid-related logistical challenge. We must thank the visiting teams for agreeing to travel at this challenging period for world cricket and we are especially grateful to our regional Governments who are playing such a vital role in partnering with CWI to ensure that International cricket can be hosted safely, while providing entertainment for our loyal fans and income for our cricketers and cricket communities," Grave added in his statement.
