The winners of the World Test Championship final between India and Australia will be given 1.6 million dollars, while the runners-up will go home with 800,000 dollars, the International Cricket Council announced on Friday (May 26).
The two teams will meet in the finale at The Oval in London from June 7. There is no change in the tournament prize money, which remains the same as that for the maiden edition of the championship (2019-21), with a total purse of $3.8 million.
In the last edition, New Zealand went home with 1.6 million dollars, defeating India in the grand finale. The Black Caps, however, finished sixth in this edition and will have to satisfy with 100,000 dollars, and so will have to Pakistan (No. 7), West Indies (No. 8), and Bangladesh (No. 9).
South Africa, who finished third, will receive 450,000 dollars. England, who made a late surge and ended their campaign in fourth spot, will bag 350,000 dollars. Meanwhile Sri Lanka, who were among the top teams in the race for a spot in the final, finished fifth to earn 200,000 dollars.
