The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) have announced the postponement of Women’s Emerging Asia Cup 2025 due to due to "adverse weather conditions" and "health concerns owing to chikungunya disease" in Sri Lanka. ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the news on Monday while adding that the continental body will “reschedule the event at the earliest possible date”.
"The ACC is committed to providing opportunities for young women cricketers to develop their skills and compete at the highest level. We understand the strategic significance of this tournament in shaping the future of women's cricket in Asia, and we will work diligently to reschedule the event at the earliest possible date,” Naqvi wrote on X.
SLC president Shammi Silva first wrote to the ACC, citing Sri Lanka's meteorological department’s weather advisory warning of strong winds and heavy showers across multiple provinces in the country due to the strengthening of the southwest monsoon, before ACC decided to move the tournament to a new date.
Currently, India and Pakistan have very strained diplomatic ties after cross-border terrorism killed 26 tourists in Pahalgam, after which India launched a retaliation campaign under Operation Sindoor. Even though BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had said that the board had not communicated any decision regarding their participation in the continental event, it seems extremely unlikely in the current situation.
