The Tri-Nation series between the women's teams of India, Sri Lanka and South Africa will come to an end on May 11 (Sunday) with the final between hosts Sri Lanka and India. It will be a replay of the Asia Cup final from last year, which Sri Lanka won.
The Indian women’s team qualified for the final first after they defeated South Africa twice and Sri Lanka once, and topped the points table.
In the first match of the tournament, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side thumped the hosts by an authoritative nine-wicket win as Pratika Rawal hit an unbeaten fifty while Sneh Rana picked 3/31.
In the next match, Rana was once again at her lethal best with the ball and picked a five-wicket haul to restrict South Africa to 261 as India defended 276 and won the match by 16 runs.
The Women in Blue then played Sri Lanka again and, this time around, they were at the receiving end of things as the Lankan Women chased down 276 with three wickets in hand.
In their last league match of the tournament, the Indian women once again beat South Africa, this time around by 23 runs. Thanks to a century by Jemimah Rodriguez, India posted 337/9. With the help of Amanjot Kaur’s 3/59, India managed to restrict the Proteas Women to 314/7.
As for the Sri Lanka Women, after a forgettable outing in the first game, they improved by leaps and bounds and chased down 236 with five wickets in hand. Kavisha Dilhari (61) and Harshitha Samarawickrama (71) helped the cause.
In the next game against India, along with Samarawikrama, Nalakshi Silva too smashed a fifty. However, in their last game against South Africa, the islanders lost, but still managed to qualify for the finals.
