After suffering a historic loss against the India Women, where they lost both the ODI and the T20I series, England Women head coach Charlotte Edwards feels that, more than a reality check, it was the right kind of challenge her team needed.
Edwards, a former England captain, has plenty of experience of coaching in India thanks to her stint with Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
She said that more than being worried, she is super confident that her team can beat any opponent in the upcoming Women’s World Cup 2025, starting September 30 in India.
“It wasn't a reality check. We know we can beat India. We are going into a World Cup where we know if we play our best, we can beat any team,” TOI quoted her as saying on the BBC Podcast.
“We were massively challenged and that's how we want women's cricket to be,” added Edwards, who was appointed England’s head coach after they suffered a humiliating 0-16 drubbing in the away Women’s Ashes 2024-25.
Edwards remains the last England Women’s captain to win a World Cup, which she did by defeating India in a nail-biting finale at Lord’s in 2017.
England Women will begin their 2025 World Cup campaign against South Africa on October 3rd in Bengaluru.
