Workload Management Nonsense: Former India Batter Lashes Out At Jasprit Bumrah & BCCI
The pacer played just three out of the five Tests against England
Jasprit Bumrah's workload management has been talked about quite a lot recently. The pacer played just three of the five Tests against England, which ended 2-2. While some like former teammate Ajinkya Rahane have lauded Bumrah for his courageous decision, former India batter Sandeep Patil is having none of it.
He believes the workload management logic is nonsense, and does not understand why the BCCI is giving in to this.
"Workload management is nonsense. You are either fit or unfit, and that's how we [his selection committee] picked teams. We did not entertain this workload business. Modern-day players have all the facilities. We did not have such rehab programmes in our playing days. At times, we carried on playing despite injuries. Let's just say we were happy playing for the country… no naatak," Patil said in a chat with Mid-Day as per Times of India.
Patil also did not understand why the BCCI was agreeing to such conditions.
"I wonder how the BCCI is agreeing to all this. Is the physio more important than the captain, than the head coach? What about selectors? Are we to expect that the physio will be sitting in selection committee meetings now? Will he decide?" Patil added.
Bumrah picked up 14 wickets in the three Tests in England, including a couple of five-wicket hauls.
