Workload management and Jasprit Bumrah have gone hand-in-hand in Indian cricket for a while now. The India pacer played just three of the five Tests against England recently, and many have criticised the decision to allow him to pick and choose the matches he wants to feature in.
However, former India opener Virender Sehwag feels that managing workload is important for bowlers, not so much for the batters.
“I think workload is important, especially for bowlers. For batsmen, I don’t think workload is a problem, since they can play and don’t have to play too many matches anyway. So, I think it’s important mainly for bowlers, especially fast bowlers," Sehwag said on Sony Sports Network, as per News 18.
“If they are managed properly, they can play for a longer time. For India, it’s important that all fast bowlers stay fit, because in big events like the Asia Cup or World Cup, if they are available, India’s chances of winning will be higher."
Bumrah has been named in India's Asia Cup 2025 squad. The Asia Cup will be his first white-ball appearance for India since the 2024 T20 World Cup Final.
