England have had a poor record in the Ashes Down Under, but there’s a newly found energy for them going into the 2025/26 series in Australia following Pat Cummins’ injury. Cummins’ injury has also changed several predictions, with pundits now even predicting England to have a say on the five-match Test series.
However, on October 13 (Monday), former Australian opener David Warner predicted that Australia would steamroll past England 4-0 in the series, with one possible wash-out. That prediction, though, hasn’t gone down well with Stuart Broad, who reckoned that Australia will start as favourites, but they don’t have quite the team.
“Don’t know what I make of it. The prediction 4-0 (with one wash-out), it is quite difficult to win in Australia for any side. Australia have to be massive favourites. The question really was which team is under pressure, and I guess that is Australia because they have question marks over their team, their captain and his fitness,” Broad said on his podcast with Jos Buttler, ‘For The Love of Cricket’.
Furthermore, Broad added fuel to the rivalry, stating that Steve Smith’s Australian team is the ‘worst Australian team since 2010’.
“It is probably the worst Australian team since 2010, and it is the best England team since 2010, and those things match up. Australia have been so consistent with their plans and approach, and they don’t have that anymore. It is quite a similar situation to 2010/11, when Australia were confused,” he added.
So, what’s Broad’s prediction for the upcoming series?
“England have a great chance of being very good, and Australia have a decent chance of being bad.”
England haven’t won an Ashes series down under since 2010/11, with Ben Stokes’ men looking to make history in the upcoming five-match Test series.
