Punjab Kings (PBKS) finished the league stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 right at the top of the points table, but things took a drastic turn in the Qualifier 1 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Mullanpur on May 29 (Thursday).
PBKS were horrible with the bat and were bowled out for just 101 in 14.1 overs - the joint-second lowest total in an IPL playoffs encounter.
Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) were bowled out for just 87 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2008, while Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) also got out for 101 against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator in the 2023 season.
This is also the quickest any team has been bowled out in the playoffs in IPL history. Before this game, it was Delhi Daredevils who got out in 16.1 overs in 2008.
Asked to bat, Punjab got off to a horrible start, losing Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Josh Inglis and Shreyas Iyer inside the first six overs. Marcus Stoinis (26 off 17), Azmatullah Omarzai (18 off 12) and Prabhsimran (18 off 10) were the only ones with scores of more than 10.
For RCB, paceman Josh Hazlewood and legspinner Suyash Sharma took three wickets each, while left-armer Yash Dayal claimed two wickets.
This is also Punjab’s sixth-lowest total in the IPL.
