Smriti Mandhana, captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, did not shy away from a sly remark on her Gujarat Giants counterpart Ashleigh Gardner, who also got her out in the season opener at the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) Stadium in Vadodara on February 14 (Friday).
In the post-match presentation ceremony, Mandhana was asked if she would take the Australian out for dinner, now that she had gotten out to her a record ninth time.
Responding to that, the RCB skipper, with a smile on her face, said, “I think I have to take her for runs, I think it is time now.”
Earlier in the game, riding on the back of Gardner’s unbeaten 79 off 37 balls, the Giants posted their joint highest WPL total of 201. But even that did not turn out to be enough after a Richa Ghosh Masterclass took the game away from the Giants.
Home side Giants will be up against UP Warriorz in their next game on February 16 at the same venue. RCB will play DC on February 17.
