The third edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) is set to begin in early February. The tournament has been the biggest financial boost for Women's cricket overall and has garnered the most attention among women's cricket tournaments. The overseas stars are going to be a focal point of the tournament. Meg Lanning, Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry, and other foreign talent have been among the biggest crowd-pullers in the tournament.
Coming into the 2025 edition, some other overseas talent will be looking to have a great season and make a big impression on the viewers. Here are four players who will be hoping to have a terrific WPL season.
Deandra Dottin is easily considered one of the greatest T20 cricketers to ever play the game. Still, she is yet to make her WPL debut, as he was replaced by the Giants in the inaugural edition due to injury. In the second season, she went unsold in the auction. She has gotten lucky the third time as Gujarat Giants once again signed her for INR 1.7 crore ahead of the third season.Dottin is an aggressive top-order batter who can also take pick wickets with medium-pace bowling. She has immense experience in this format, as she has scored nearly 5000 runs and taken 125 wickets in Women's T20s. She is the first player to score a hundred in WT20Is. Thus, she will play a massive factor in the Gujarat Giants' overall performance as they hope to reach their first WPL knockouts.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge will be finally making her much anticipated WPL debut after spending time on the bench in the previous season for the UP Warriorz. Heading into WPL 2025, she became the first player in WPL history to be traded as she moved to her favourite franchise - Royal Challengers Bengaluru. She will be expected to open the batting from game 1 as the English batter has opened with the RCB captain Smriti Mandhana in the Hundred for Southern Brave franchise in the last two editions. She has managed to adapt to the Indian conditions as she has scored 459 runs at a SR of 142 with two fifties and a century.
Annabel Sutherland is currently the best all-rounder in women's cricket across formats. The 23-year-old has been a consistent performer over the last two years, which is one of the big reasons why Delhi Capitals paid a whopping INR 2 crore to bag her services, making her one of the highest-paid overseas player in the competition.
In the 2024 season, she was given limited chances as she played only four games, taking just one wicket and scoring 27 runs. She has done well for Australia in the last calendar yea,r taking the most wickets (19) since 2024. With the massive growth shown by Sutherland in the past year, she will be hoping to get more games for the Capitals franchise in the 2025 season.
Phoebe Litchfield has been one of the rising stars of Women's cricket being the aggressive top order batter for Australia. She has had a good calendar year for Australia in 2024 and scored over 342 runs for the Sydney Thunder in Big Bash League 2024. She was signed by the Gujarat Giants the previous season. But her season did not go well as she scored only 108 runs in eight games at just 13.5 average. However, she would be hoping to change that fortunes around this year for the franchise.
