The third edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) will begin on February 14 and will yet again garner considerable attention. That’s exactly where the overseas players will be crucial to their team’s chances of winning.
Coming into the 2025 edition, some other overseas talent will be looking to have a great season and make a big impression on the viewers. Here are five players who will be hoping to light up the WPL 2025 season:
Funnily enough, Deandra Dottin, one of the greatest T20 players in women’s cricket, has yet to play a single WPL game. After a rather ‘controversial’ exit in the first season, Dottin went unsold in the WPL 2024 auction only to return to the Gujarat Giants.
Dottin is an aggressive top-order batter and a medium-pace bowler who can bowl in pressure situations. She’s scored nearly 5,000 runs and taken 125 wickets in Women’s T20s and is also the first player to score a hundred in WT20Is. Her addition will be a huge boost to Gujarat, who have disappointed across both seasons.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge will be finally making her much anticipated WPL debut after spending time on the bench in the previous season for the UP Warriorz. Heading into WPL 2025, she became the first player in WPL history to be traded as she moved to her favourite franchise - Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
She has managed to adapt to Indian conditions, scoring 459 runs at an SR of 142 with two fifties and a century. Not to forget, she’s one of the best spin bowlers, which makes her almost a confirmed starter for RCB.
Annabel Sutherland is currently the best all-rounder in women's cricket across formats. The 23-year-old has been a consistent performer over the last two years, which is one of the big reasons why Delhi Capitals paid a whopping INR 2 crore to sign her.
The all-rounder has struck three white-ball hundreds and a massive 163 against England in the recently concluded Ashes. There’s a reason why she won the ‘Belinda Clarke Award’, and she could very well etch her name in DC’s legacy.
Phoebe Litchfield has been one of the rising stars of Women's cricket. She is an aggressive top-order batter for Australia. In 2024, she had a good calendar year for Australia and scored over 342 runs for the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.
She was signed by the Gujarat Giants the previous season. But the left-handed batter couldn’t quite impress with the bat in hand, with 108 runs in eight games, averaging 13.5. Litchfield would want to change all of that record in WPL 2025.
Kim Garth was a late replacement call-up, and it might just be a blessing in disguise for RCB. The all-rounder could very well solve a lot of RCB’s problems, being a decent No.8/9, and can be paired efficiently with Renuka Singh Thakur to pack a punch in the powerplay.
The 28-year-old has struck 49 times in the shortest format, averaging 21.61, with 12 in the powerplay, a phase where she has an economy of 6.6. Signings can’t get better than this.
