Ellyse Perry’s stocks in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) continued to rise as the Australian all-rounder became the first batter in the competition to tally 800 runs. The all-rounder got to that milestone in the clash against UP Warriorz on February 24 with her stellar half-century.
Perry overtook Meg Lanning’s tally of 782 runs to become the first to scale 'Mount 800', continuing her sizzling form with her seventh half-century. It is the joint-most half-centuries for any batter in the competition, as Perry joined Lanning in another list.
The all-rounder absolutely smashed the Warriorz bowling unit and continued her red-hot streak in this year’s competition with her third half-century. Not just that, Perry also overtook Nat Sciver-Brunt’s run tally this year (179) to reclaim the Orange Cap.
On the day, the Australian didn’t spare a single bowler, with a thorough bashing of UP skipper Deepti Sharma, scoring 31 off 13 balls, at 238.5. Perry had a similar form against her fellow Australian all-rounder, Tahlia McGrath, scoring 17 off nine balls.
Unfortunately, Perry couldn’t become the first centurion in WPL history, missing a well-deserved century by ten runs, as she finished the innings on 90 off 56 balls.
