After a stellar 90* against UP Warriorz on February 24, Ellyse Perry registered her first-ever Women’s Premier League (WPL) duck against Gujarat Giants, who are reeling at the bottom of the table.
Prior to this clash, Perry had smashed 835 runs in her 22 WPL matches before finally getting out for a duck. The Australian all-rounder had scored seven fifties, the joint-most in WPL history, alongside Meg Lanning.
With Smriti Mandhana at the crease, Gujarat’s skipper took the ball, and it turned out to be a blessing in disguise, with Gardner removing Perry. The off-spinner bowled a half-tracker, which was smashed straight into the hands of Tanuja Kanwar.
Surprisingly, it was only the second time an off-spinner had dismissed the Australian all-rounder in WPL. Deepti Sharma was the last off-spinner to dismiss Perry back in 2023 at the Brabourne Stadium. Till the start of this game, Perry was well in contention to win back the Orange Cap from Mumbai Indians all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt (254 runs), with the Australian all-rounder scoring 235 runs, averaging 78.33 in the season.
