Kiran Navgire’s promotion as opener paid more dividends to UP Warriorz, as the franchise posted their highest-ever WPL powerplay score against Delhi Capitals on February 19. The 30-year-old was at her destructive best, smashing the two-time WPL finalists, as UP Warriorz posted 66 runs in the powerplay.
Navgire started the innings with intent, scoring two consecutive boundaries, taking on one of the world’s best new-ball bowlers, Marizanne Kapp. The right-hander didn’t stop there, smashing Shikha Pandey too for a couple of boundaries as the Warriorz were off to a pacy start.
Every time the ball was dropped short, the 30-year-old rocked on her backfoot and nonchalantly smoked the ball over the square leg region for a six or through point region for a four. Even the introduction of the wily Jess Jonassen couldn’t stop the Indian opener, who went on a merry run, smashing boundaries all around the ground.
