WPL 2025: UP Warriorz Announce Georgia Voll As Chamari Athapaththu's Replacement
The Sri Lankan leaves the camp to represent her country in the white-ball series against New Zealand
UP Warriorz have named Australia batter Georgia Voll as a replacement for Chamari Athapaththu, who leaves the team in the middle of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 to link up with Sri Lanka ahead of their tour of New Zealand. Voll joins UP for the rest of the season for INR 30 lakh.
Sri Lanka are scheduled to play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and as many T20 Internationals (T20Is) against the White Ferns starting March 4 in Napier. Athapaththu was due to be with the team till February 26 (Wednesday) for their game against Mumbai Indians (MI), which her side lost. The Warriorz will next be in action on March 3 (Monday) agianst Gujarat Giants in Lucknow.
Athapaththu is the only overseas player from the team to have not played a single game this season.
Voll, who played for Sydney Thunder in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), was the second-highest run-getter for her franchise last season, notching up 330 runs at a strike rate of 144. Since making her international debut in December 2024, the 21-year-old has gone on to represent Australia in all three formats.
In fact, she scored a hundred in only her second ODI against India and also finished that series as the highest run-getter with 173 runs at 86.50. In her three T20Is, she has scored 49 runs at a strike rate of 132.43. Overall, she has played 78 T20s, in which she has smashed 1,404 runs at a strike rate of 119.28.
UP are currently fourth in the WPL 2025 points table, with just two wins from five matches so far.
