Right now, the entire Delhi Capitals’ fan base is going, who is Nallapureddy Shree Charani?
The two-time WPL finalists warded off interest from the inaugural WPL champions, Mumbai Indians, to get the left-arm spinner’s services for INR 55 lakhs. But what did they find in the 20-year-old that they were ready to shell so much?
Kadapa isn’t famously known for any cricketing reason. After all, it has just a population of 4,66,000. The city is much more well-known for its spicy cuisines.
But amidst all of this, there was a budding cricketer who was ready to take the world by storm - Nallapureddy Shree Charani. According to AP7am desk, Shree Charani's father, Chandrasekhar Reddy, was working as a small-time employee at Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project.
Her selection wouldn’t just make her family happy but the entire village.
The 2004-born, who plays for Andhra Pradesh, is a quality left-arm spinner, making her debut for DC against RCB on March 1 (Saturday). Shree Charani has picked up six wickets in her WT20 career at an impressive economy rate of 5.1.
Back on October 22, 2024, the left-arm spinner picked up 2/18 against Goa Women in Vadodara, a game that they went on to win. Not just that, she’s more than a capable batter, which perhaps is another reason why DC picked her in the playing XI.
The left-handed batter has amassed 84 runs in her WT20 career, striking at 131.3, with a high score of 22. Charani has a combined total of 14 boundaries, including a six. She will be hopeful that the game doesn’t boil down to her coming out to bat, but will be eager to make a difference.
