WPL an opportunity to pick brains of legends from around the world: Taniya

The India wicketkeeper was picked up by Delhi Capitals for her base price of INR 30 lakh during the auction

Ahead of their opening game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC) have been preparing extensively for what promises to be an exciting clash. It will be a show down between World Cup winning captain Meg Lanning and India's Stalwart Smriti Mandhana.

Speaking ahead of their clash, wicketkeeper-batter Taniya Bhatia said that she is looking forward to the tournament as it gives her an opportunity to pick the brains of many renowned international stars. Bhatia was bought by the Capitals for her base price of INR 30 lakh in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 auction.

"I just want to enjoy my cricket. This tournt is like an international competition as we are getting to play with legends from around the world. I want to utilise this opportunity to pick their brains during the competition," Delhi Capitals quoted Bhatia as saying in an official press release.

Leg-spinner Poonam Yadav, who is India's second-highest wicket-taker in Women's T20 Internationals (WT20I) with 98 scalps believes that the WPL will take women's cricket to a higher level.

"Women's cricket will go to a higher level through the WPL. The players can showcase their experience and talent in the WPL. This will help women's cricket reach new heights," Poonam said.

"There was a lot of excitement from the moment we stepped out of our rooms. We were in a new set-up with a new jersey and a new kit bag. It was exciting to interact with new teammates as well."

DC and RCB will play the first of the two matches on Sunday (March 5) at the Brabourne Stadium. The action will then shift to the DY Patil Stadium for the second clash of the day between UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants.
