Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal began the first Test against England at Headingley with a bang, scoring 101 in the first innings. However, things quickly went downhill for the 23-year-old. Jaiswal dropped four catches across England's two innings, which proved costly as India went on to lose the match by five wickets.
Most of those missed chances came in the slip cordon, and as a result, there is a strong possibility that Jaiswal won’t be fielding in the slips during the second Test at Edgbaston, starting July 2 (Wednesday). According to a report by Revsportz, Jaiswal wasn’t part of the slip cordon during India’s training session ahead of the match.
Instead, Karun Nair was seen fielding at first slip, with KL Rahul and skipper Shubman Gill positioned at second and third slip, respectively. Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy were seen rotating between the fourth slip and gully.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal was spotted working closely with head coach Gautam Gambhir and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate. “Sai and Nitish looked crisp in the cordon and didn’t drop any chances that came their way,” said the Revsportz report.
“Meanwhile, Gambhir was pretty animated with Jaiswal and was showing him techniques of short catching. It won’t be surprising if Jaiswal fields at leg slip or forward short leg or silly point," the report added.
