Yashasvi Jaiswal’s start has been nothing short of exceptional, as the left-hander brought up his 2000th Test run against England in the second Test, on July 4 (Friday). Like Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, Jaiswal only took 40 innings to bring up the milestone, the joint-quickest for an Indian batter.
Jaiswal’s quick-fire start in Test cricket has taken everyone by surprise, as the left-hander smashed 1903 runs in his first 20 Tests, where he averaged 52.86, with five hundred and ten fifties.
Earlier in the clash at Edgbaston, the left-hander had the excellent opportunity to bring up another Test hundred, his sixth, when he was on 87*. However, in the most unfortunate manner, the left-hander edged one behind to the wicketkeeper, Jamie Smith, as Ben Stokes ended his stay at the crease.
In the second innings, Jaiswal smashed eight boundaries before his stay was cut short, with a 22-ball 28.
