On Day 3 of the Rajkot Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal brought up his third Test ton to put England to the sword but the day ended on a rather disappointing note for the youngster, who had to retire hurt after experiencing discomfort in the back.
India started Day 3 on the back foot thanks to England having blasted 207/2 in 35 overs, but a sensational turnaround saw the hosts bowling the visitors out for 319 and taking a 126-run first innings lead.
The collapse from England meant that India remarkably were batting inside the first hour of the second session of Day 3, despite England having eight wickets in hand at the start of the day.
Jaiswal, who struck a double-ton in Vizag, started cautiously, batting with a strike rate of 46.15 for the first 65 balls of his innings, but then shifted gears and obliterated a tired England attack to bring up his second ton of the series in just 122 balls.
However, he endured a bittersweet end to an otherwise great day as with 30 minutes left in the day, he walked off retired hurt after experiencing discomfort in the back. It remains unclear what troubled Jaiswal but after desperately trying to carry on, he gave in and walked off the field retired hurt, unbeaten on 104.
He was replaced by Rajat Patidar, who departed for a 10-ball duck.
India will be hoping that the injury to Jaiswal is not serious. They’re already a man down in this contest, with Ravichandran Ashwin having flown back home due to a family emergency.
