Yograj Singh Feels Life Is Complete, Now He's Ready To Die

Yuvraj Singh’s father reflected on loneliness, family estrangement and being in an emotional void

Former India cricketer and coach Yograj Singh has opened up about deep loneliness and the emotional void he is experiencing in life. Speaking to Vintage Studio, the 62-year-old said he spends most of his days alone and depends on acquaintances for basic support.

“I sit alone in the evening, have no one at home. I rely on strangers for food, sometimes just one person, sometimes another. Someone gets food for me if I am hungry. I kept house help and cooks, they served and went away,” Yograj said, as quoted by India Today.

Yograj’s family background has long been part of public curiosity and has been full of separations and strained relationships. His first marriage was to Shabnam Kaur, with whom he has two sons, Yuvraj Singh and Zoravar Singh. After their divorce, Yograj married Neena Bundhel (Satbir Kaur). From this second marriage, he has two more children, Victor and Amarjot, both of whom now live in the United States. Despite the distances and fractures, Yograj insists he holds affection for everyone in the family.

“I love my mother, kids, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, everyone in the family. But I don’t ask for anything. I am ready to die. My life is completed; whenever God wants, he can take me with him. I am so thankful to God, I pray and he keeps giving,” the former Indian all-rounder said.

Recalling the turning point in his personal life, Yograj said the departure of his first wife and son, Yuvraj, was devastating.

“When things came to a point where Yuvi and his mother left me, it gave me the biggest shock. The woman for whom I dedicated my entire life, all of my youth, can also leave me and go away?

“A lot of things got destroyed like this. I asked God why all of this was happening when I did everything right by everyone. I cried in front of God, he took me out of that sea,” he added.

Yograj played one Test and six ODIs for India before becoming a coach known for his demanding training routines and unwavering discipline. He has also acted in Bollywood movies like ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, where he played the role of legendary runner Milkha Singh's coach.
