Yorkshire Make Statement Signing, Bag CSK Skipper For Rest Of County Season
Ruturaj Gaikwad will make his long-awaited county debut in the upcoming month
Great news for Ruturaj Gaikwad, as the CSK skipper is all set to make his County Championship debut, representing Yorkshire ahead of the Surrey clash next month. Yorkshire confirmed the proceedings on June 10 (Tuesday), stating that he will also be available for the entirety of the One-Day Cup.
"I'm excited to be joining up with Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season," Gaikwad told Yorkshire after the signing.
"It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country, and there is no bigger Club in England than Yorkshire. I know how important it is that I hit the ground running at what will be a crucial part of the season. We have some vital games in the County Championship and the One Day Cup is a great opportunity to win some silverware,” he added.
Gaikwad’s excellent List A numbers make him an invaluable signing for Yorkshire, with the right-handed batter averaging 56.15 in the format, with 16 hundreds and 15 half-centuries. Yorkshire’s coach, Anthony McGrath, was excited to work with the CSK skipper, adding that he will add a lot of experience to the batting unit.
“I’m extremely pleased to see Ruturaj sign with us for the second half of the season. He is a very accomplished cricketer with a natural all-round game that is well suited to the cricket we want to play." McGrath told Yorkshire.
“Ruturaj will give us some extra solidity in our batting lineup whilst having that ability to score quick runs when required. He’s an exciting talent and one I know is highly rated across the game.”
