2/5 and 0/24 - Rajasthan Royals (RR)’s seamer Yudhvir Singh Charak had contrasting returns in his first two overs in Match 62 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on May 20 (Tuesday).
Playing his fourth game of the season, the Jammu-born paceman was given the second over, and he responded with wickets of Devon Conway and dangerous Urvil Patel in the space of three deliveries. While Conway was caught at mid-off, Urvil handed a catch to the fielder at mid-on.
The Men in Yellow were 20/2 at the end of three overs, and Yudhvir was given the fourth over. The first two deliveries went for two runs, but that’s when all went wrong for the right-armer.
A delivery down the leg was worked fine for a boundary by R Ashwin before the next ball was whipped over the leg-side fence for a six. Yudhvir then bowled a no-ball and Ayush Mhatre sent it for a maximum over long-on, before finishing the over with a four.
After picking two wickets and conceding just five runs in his first over, Yudhvir leaked 24 runs in his second over, and that gave CSK much-needed momentum in the powerplay.
Yudhvir returned to bowl the seventh over and ended up dismissing Ravindra Jadeja, getting him caught at short mid-wicket. This is the first time he has picked up three wickets in an IPL match.
Both CSK and RR are also out of the race for the IPL 2025 playoffs.
