Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) President Tavengwa Mukuhlani was unanimously elected as the chair of the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) on July 19 (Sunday). He was elected by two permanent members - South Africa and his own country - Zimbabwe, and 23 Associate members.
Speaking for the first time after his appointment to a post where he had been working as interim chief, Mukuhlani, in a statement by Zimbabwe Cricket, said, “We stand today at the threshold of a new era for African cricket - an era defined by stronger governance, broader opportunity and renewed ambition.”
"Let us continue building on the progress we have made, united by a common purpose and driven by a shared love for the game,” he added.
Cricket became part of the African Games in the 2023 Ghana edition, and the new chair would look to make sure that the trend continues even in Egypt in 2027. Apart from that, resumption of the Afro-Asia Cup and a T20 competition for Africa will be on his agenda.
"These engagements are crucial not only for visibility but also for opening new doors of investment, policy support and continental collaboration," he said about his future ambitions.
Chairperson of the ZC since 2015, Mukuhlani has seen Zimbabwean cricket out of debt, and the women’s team has progressed to enter the Futures Tour Program (FTP) of the ICC as well.
Zimbabwe are slated to host the U-19 World Cup with Namibia and the ODI World Cup with Namibia and South Africa.
