Zimbabwe completely wiped the floor against Bangladesh on April 23 (Wednesday), with a rare three-wicket win away from home. In doing so, the Chevrons broke their winless streak in the red-ball format, with their last victory coming against Afghanistan in 2021, where they won by 10 wickets.
Their last win, too, came away from home, at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Since then, they have lost eight out of 10 fixtures, with two draws, and they come into this series in the worst possible shape.
However, none of that carried forward here, with a thumping three-wicket win, where they put on 273 runs in the first innings after reducing Bangladesh to just 191 all out. Despite that, Bangladesh’s spirited second-innings show, where they scored 255 all out, helped them set a target of 174.
On the back of a stellar opening partnership - Brian Bennet (54) and Ben Curran (44) - Zimbabwe got a very good head start in the run chase, but then a tricky phase ensued, which ultimately resulted in them winning by three wickets.
