A composed and confident right-handed batsman, Jamaican Marlon Samuels is ranked very highly in West Indies cricket. He made his debut in 2000 when he was just 19 and was flown in to Australia straightaway, without even making his representation for Jamaica. 
 
During the series, many critics started comparing Samuels to the legendary Viv Richards. However, the unfair load of expectations proved to be a building block for him and he exuded a calm and cool temperament. However, Samuels was dropped frequently from the side, as he was involved in one controversy after another. The form dipped and injury crept in. He made a comeback in 2005-06 but did little to boost his form and continued to perform poorly in the ODIs. Marlon was reported for a suspect action in 2008 but resumed to bowl from September, 2011. 
 
Later, a dramatic, undefeated hundred against Pakistan in 2006 led to his selection for the World Cup where he showed brief glimpses of his batting. As years passed, the batsman in him grew but he was once again caught in the middle of awkward situations as the ICC banned him for two years in 2008 for match-fixing allegations. Thereafter, he returned to the international circuit in 2011 to face Pakistan in a T20I. 
 
Samuels was the chief orchestrator in setting up West Indies' World Twenty20 final, in 2012 against Sri Lanka with a brilliant 78. In December 2013, deja vu caught up with him as ICC cleared Samuels to bowl his off-spin but deemed his quicker deliveries illegal after he along with Shane Shillingford were reported at the end of the historic Sachin Tendulkar-farewell Test in Mumbai.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) have confirmed that they have charged former West Indies player Marlon Samuels with breaching four counts of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code. Samuels, who last represented the Windies in 2018, is said to have committed the offence at the Abu Dhabi T10 league, in which he was a part of the &lsquo;Karnataka Tuskers&rsquo; squad in the 2019 edition which was won by the Dwayne Bravo-led Maratha Arabians side.&nbsp;The ICC have confirmed that Samuels has been charged with the breach of Article 2.4.2, Article 2.4.3, Article 2.4.6 and Article 2.4.7, which predominantly pertains to failure to disclose information to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official.In a release, the council stated the following.&ldquo;A breach of Article 2.4.2 &ndash; Failing to disclose to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official, the receipt of any gift, payment, hospitality or other benefit that was made or given in circumstances that could bring the Participant or the sport of cricket into disrepute.&quot;A breach of Article 2.4.3 - Failing to disclose to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official receipt of hospitality with a value of US $750 or more.&quot;Breaches of Article 2.4.6 &ndash; Failing to cooperate with the Designated Anti-Corruption Official&rsquo;s investigation.&quot;Breaches of Article 2.4.7 &ndash; Obstructing or delaying the Designated Anti-Corruption Official&rsquo;s investigation by concealing information that may have been relevant to the investigation.&rdquo;The 40-year-old has been provided two weeks to respond to the charges.&nbsp;&ldquo;The ICC will not make any further comment in respect of these charges at this stage,&rdquo; the council further added in the statement.&nbsp;Powered by <a href="https://www.froala.com/wysiwyg-editor?pb=1" title="Froala Editor">Froala Editor</a>

West Indies batsman Marlon Samuel, who last played for his side in December 2018 against Bangladesh, has retired from all forms of cricket.&nbsp;According to ESPNcricinfo, the 39-year-old had informed Cricket West Indies about his retirement in June.&nbsp;Samuels had struck a match-winning knock in the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 final against Sri Lanka, while in the 2016 World T20 final in Kolkata, he was adjudged player of the match for an unbeaten 85 runs to help his side beat England. He also became the only man to win player of the match in two ICC finals after that England game.&nbsp;The right-handed batsman scored 3917 runs in 71 Test matches including seven centuries and 25 fifties, while from 207 ODIs, he accumulated 5606 runs hitting 10 centuries and 30 half-centuries. He also played 67 T20Is, scoring 1611 runs with the help of 10 half-centuries. &nbsp;Samuel has also represented several T20 franchises including in the Indian Premier League (Delhi Daredevils and Pune Warriors) and Big Bash League (Melbourne Renegades).&nbsp;He played 15 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL), scoring 161 runs and picking up nine wickets.Off the field, he made news for the wrong reasons.In 2008, Samuels was banned by the ICC after he was found guilty of &quot;receiving money&quot; and bringing the &quot;game of cricket into disrepute&quot;.Six years before that, he was almost sent home for defying a team curfew in India.He was also banned from bowling for a year after his action was found to be illegal in 2015.In 2014, Samuels also objected to then skipper Dwayne Bravo&#39;s decision to pull out in the middle of West Indies&#39; tour of India over pay disparity.Recently, he was engaged in an online spat with Ben Stokes during which he made some unsavoury remarks against the England allrounder.Inputs- PTI
