Andrew Tye is a right-arm fast bowler who excels in the ability of bowling yorkers at will and has clever variations to deceive any batsman. He is one of the late bloomers in international cricket as he made his debut for Western Australia in the state one-day competition at the age of 26. He ended the tournament on a high and finished as the second most successful bowler by bagging 13 wickets. A modern day bowler who specialized the art of bowling at the death, he was soon selected by the Sydney Thunders franchise for the 2013-14 Big Bash League.
 
 
In the very next year, he changed his loyalties to Perth Scorchers and that was the season which saw his rise. His impressive performances there landed him with a call-up for the national team against India in 2016. He made his Indian T20 League debut in the 2017 edition for the Gujarat franchise and registered the then best bowling figures by a bowler on his debut (5/17) which included a hat-trick.
 
 
In January 2018, Tye was named in Australia's One Day International squad for the series against England. He made his ODI debut for Australia in that series on 14th January 2018. Later that year, he was bought by Punjab for the 2018 Indian T20 League. In that season, he picked up 24 wickets and was the highest wicket-taker. Tye finished the year becoming the leading wicket-taker in T20Is in 2018 with 31 wickets. He wasn't too effective in the following edition and was released by Punjab ahead of the 2020 auction. Rajasthan bagged his services after spending INR 1 crore.

In Perth Scorchers&rsquo; first four matches of the season, they had suffered three defeats with the other game ending without a result due to rain. At the time, they were languishing at the bottom of the Big Bash League (BBL) table. That was on 28 December 2020.Move forward 26 days and the Scorchers find themselves at the opposite end of the ladder and, while they&rsquo;ve already made it to the playoffs, they&#39;ve also given themselves a great chance of finishing in the top two now. They&rsquo;ve managed this extraordinary turnaround by securing eight wins in their last nine matches which is an extraordinary run of form.The latest of those victories came against Melbourne Stars at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday (23 January 2021). The Scorchers triumphed by 11 runs and, while the Sixers have a game in hand, the Perth-based franchise will end the day as the team that is sitting at the top of the league table thanks to a superior run-rate.ROY, MUNRO PROPEL SCORCHERSA superb all-round performance resulted in the Scorchers securing the win and it was set in motion by Jason Roy after the Scorchers had been put into bat.Adam Zampa had bowled just two overs in the first Powerplay previously this season. But with both of Scorchers&#39; openers, Roy and Liam Livingstone, known to be better against pace than spin, Stars captain Glenn Maxwell decided to bring his premier leg-spinner in to bowl as soon as the third over.That move, though, didn&#39;t work as Roy took the attack to Zampa right away. After a steady start in the first couple of overs, the third one went for 19 runs with Roy beginning the over with two fours and a six.At the time, it was almost like the two Scorchers opening batsmen were batting on different surfaces. While Roy was fantastic, Livingstone struggled to get going before he was dismissed by Zahir Khan for a 29-ball 24. But the opening partnership of 83 had put the three-time champions in a very good position.Nathan Coulter-Nile then got the crucial wicket of Roy immediately after the drinks break. Roy, who had reached his half-century in 28 deliveries, went for another big shot but didn&#39;t get his timing right on this occasion. Maxwell had to run back and take a difficult catch, but the brilliant fielder that he is, he made it look effortless.As a result of losing both openers in consecutive overs, the Scorchers&#39; scoring rate took a hit in the overs that followed. While they scored 79 runs in the first nine overs, they managed only 22 in the next four.At the start of the 15th over, the Scorchers decided to take the Power Surge and finally regained some momentum with 20 runs coming off the second of those overs. But immediately after, Josh Inglis &ndash; who had made a quickfire 26 &ndash; had to head back to the pavilion, with Marcus Stoinis providing the breakthrough for the Stars.Zampa was quite expensive in this match, but he still managed to get one wicket, dismissing Mitchell Marsh for five.Colin Munro is having a fabulous season and that continued here as he helped himself to an unbeaten 46 off 30 deliveries. It was his fifth 40+ score in his last seven innings. The Stars opener took on his Western Australia teammate early on, making his intentions clear by hitting a huge six in the first over.Stoinis, though, couldn&#39;t make the impact he would have liked as he was dismissed for 14 by Jason Behrendorff in what was a wicket-maiden to end the Powerplay.The four overs after the fielding restrictions were lifted were quite fruitful for the team from Perth as they got two wickets and conceded just 24 runs in that period. While Seb Gotch was run-out, Fawad Ahmed dismissed Maxwell with his first delivery.The Scorchers were almost always on the front foot from thereon and secured the Bash Boost point as well.Nick Larkin gave the Stars hope with an excellent 70 from 44 deliveries. With Larkin batting splendidly and Nic Maddinson supporting him well, the Stars decided to take the Power Surge at the start of the 13th over. While the two overs that followed yielded 19 runs, they also lost two wickets &ndash; Maddinson and Coulter-Nile &ndash; which was a huge setback for the hosts.When 13 runs came off the 17th over, the Stars would&rsquo;ve sensed an opening, but all hopes were finished when Larkin&#39;s magnificent innings ended. It was Andrew Tye with the crucial wicket which more or less sealed the match for the Scorchers.Hilton Cartwright scored an unbeaten 23 from 13 deliveries, but a target of 183 was a bridge too far in the end. The Stars currently sit in fifth but will fall out of the playoff spots for the time being if either Adelaide Strikers or Hobart Hurricanes win on Sunday (24 January 2021).

Scorchers move to top of BBL table after defeating Stars

The contest began with the Sydney Sixers winning the bat flip and putting the Perth Scorchers into bat. But that was pretty much the only thing that went the way of the Sydney-based franchise on the day as they slumped to an 86-run defeat against the Scorchers at the Perth Stadium on Wednesday (6 January 2021).After being put into bat, Liam Livingstone &ndash; despite a couple of uneasy moments &ndash; got the Scorchers off to a quick start, hitting Jackson Bird for three successive boundaries &ndash; including one six &ndash; but his stay in the middle didn&#39;t last long as Stephen O&#39;Keefe dismissed him soon after for 16.MUNRO SETS GOOD PLATFORMAfter that, the experienced pair of Jason Roy and Colin Munro put on a 65-run partnership which set an excellent platform for the hosts. But the duo batted in contrasting fashion. On one hand, Munro was looking in ominous form and seemed to be taking the game away from the Sixers. In the second-wicket stand of 65, Munro scored 50 of the runs which is incredible considering Roy is one of the most aggressive batsmen in world cricket. But the Englishman struggled to get going here.Meanwhile, the Sixers decided to make use of an X-Factor substitution, with Lloyd Pope replacing Ben Dwarshuis due to a groin injury. And as soon as Pope came into the bowling attack, Munro decided to take on the young leg-spinner. But after a six off the first delivery and then a couple of runs off the second which got the New Zealand left-handed batsman to fifty, Pope had the last laugh. Munro, attempting a sweep, was caught at square-leg.Pope wasn&#39;t done as he dismissed Roy in his second over and the X-Factor substitution seemed to have worked in the Sixers&rsquo; favour. Roy looked far from his best during his stay at the crease, managing just 27 from 31 deliveries, while hitting no sixes.FIREWORKS FROM MARSHDespite the loss of the two set batsmen, a good foundation was put in place and at the start of the 16th over, the Scorchers decided to take the Power Surge. Their batsmen &ndash; especially Mitchell Marsh &ndash; then took advantage of the fielding restrictions, scoring as many as 30 runs in two overs. Marsh accounted for three fours and one six during that phase.Josh Inglis also got into the act, taking the attack to O&#39;Keefe soon after, before being dismissed for a 12-ball 20 by the left-arm spinner while attempting another big hit.Marsh kept going though and brought up his fifty from just 25 deliveries and was unbeaten on 57 at the end. And the quest became even harder for the Sixers when they lost two of their top batsmen in Josh Philippe and James Vince inside the first Powerplay, with Jason Behrendorff and Jhye Richardson dismissing them respectively.Thereafter, it was all one-way traffic as the defending champions lost wickets at regular intervals and the Scorchers remained in complete control throughout. The Sixers simply failed to get any partnership going, with three of their top six batsmen getting dismissed for a duck. Between the seventh and tenth overs, the team from Sydney lost a wicket every over which pretty much ended the game as a contest.At the end of 10 overs, the Sixers were 58/6 which also meant that the Scorchers secured the Bash Boost point as they had scored 13 more runs at the same stage of their innings. Amidst the chaos, opener Jack Edwards did reasonably well to score 44, but he failed to get proper support at the other end.&nbsp;Having lost half-a-dozen wickets in the first half of their innings, the match was heading in only one direction. And it ended as soon as the 17th over with the Sixers getting bowled out for 97.While the Scorchers shone as a collective bowling unit, the two stand-out performers were Andrew Tye and Jhye Richardson, accounting for four and three wickets respectively.&nbsp;While the Sixers still remain at the top of the table for now, the winners in the match between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder will climb above them on Thursday (7 January 2021). The Scorchers, meanwhile, have moved up to sixth and are just two points off a playoff spot after securing a third successive win.

Scorchers overpower Sixers, secure third successive win

Fast bowler Andrew Tye on Wednesday replaced Kane Richardson in Australia&#39;s squad for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against India after the latter decided to be with his family in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Cricket Australia has said that Richardson had informed the national selectors on Tuesday about his decision to withdraw from the squad to spend time with his wife and their newborn son.&quot;It was a difficult decision for Kane to make but one which has the complete support of the selectors and the entire playing squad,&quot; national selector Trevor Hohns said in a statement issued by CA.&quot;Kane wanted to remain in Adelaide with Nyki and their newborn son. We will always support our players and their families, even more so given the challenging environment we are in.&quot;We will miss what he brings to the team but completely understand and support his decision,&quot; it added.Richardson&#39;s decision seemed to have been influenced by this week&#39;s COVID-19 outbreak in Adelaide and the resulting closure of some state borders, forcing CA to airlift some cricketers, including Test skipper Tim Paine and Marnus Labuschagne to Sydney early ahead of the first ODI against India at the SCG on November 27.The first Test between India and Australia is scheduled to begin at the Adelaide Oval on December 17.
