5 moments that shaped RCB's second home defeat in a row

Did you miss the game? Want a crisp but insightful recap? You have come to the right place

De Kock gets going

Quinton de Kock‘s 81 off 56 balls held the innings at one end. Opening the innings, he batted till the 17th over on a tricky surface. The left-hander slowed down in between, owing to his match-up against Glenn Maxwell, but his presence was critical to Lucknow’s chances.

This is the first time since October 2020 that de Kock has amassed back-to-back half-centuries in the IPL.

Pooran provides the late flourish

Lucknow Super Giants scored 50 runs in the last five overs out of which 39 came from Nicholas Pooran’s (40 not from 21 balls) bat. 30 of these runs came in sixes.

RCB lose KGF in powerplay

LSG started with three overs of left-arm orthodox spin to exploit the match-up against the RCB openers. Both Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis saw through it and just when it felt the opening duo are set to boss this chase, they slid from 40/0 to 43/3.

(K)ohli was out playing one shot too many, (G)lenn Maxwell arguably played the worst shot of the game and (F)af du Plessis ran himself out.

Mayank’s thunderous spell

Mayank Yadav’s spell of 3/14 in four overs derailed RCB’s run chase. He bowled a heavy percentage of balls on the shorter side of the pitch. And the economy rates in those zones was ridiculous. He won his second Player of the Match award in a row.

Lomror's efforts in vain

Coming in as the Impact Player, Mahipal Lomror hammered 33 off 13 balls to keep RCB in the game from a near-impossible position. However, the asking rate was too high and the wickets kept tumbling at the other end. RCB also became the first team to be bowled out this season.
