That's all from this game! Adelaide Strikers get back to winning ways and this will give them confidence going forward. The Renegades, on the other hand, continue to falter and their chances of qualifying for the final 4 dimish big time. They need to pull their socks up if they want to stand a chance. On Wednesday, 6th January 2021, we have the Perth Scorchers going up against the Sydney Sixers. That match will begin at 1615 local (0815 GMT). Join us for that. Until then, cheers and take care.
Ryan Gibson, the MAN OF THE MATCH, says that it was a nice period for him and he was happy to get some time out in the middle. Gibson says they were just trying to play good cricket shots as they knew it was a good pitch to bat on. Gibson says he was not expecting to play for Strikers but he is glad and enjoying life in Adelaide. Tells they were confident to defend anything with the class they have with their bowlers. Tells playing in front of the home crowd is massive and he is looking forward to it.
Earlier in the day, Jake Weatherald's and Ryan Gibson's knocks helped the Strikers reach 171 after a poor start. They were in trouble at one stage but the last five overs in the Strikers' innings changed the tide. The bowling from the Renegades was good till the 15th over before they crumbled and were punished duly for it. Renegades needed 172 to win but they capitulated and gave the Strikers' a comfortable victory.
The bowling from the Strikers was top class. Harry Conway started it all with the wicket of Finch before Wes Agar and Peter Siddle joined the party later in the innings. Both finished with 3 wickets and they were simply superb with their yorkers towards the end. Danny Briggs was brilliant with the ball as he kept things quiet and was rewarded with a couple of wickets. Rashid Khan was also good. Overall, it was a brilliant bowling performance.
The Renegades got off to a worst possible start as they lost Finch first ball of the chase. Then two youngsters, Sam Harper and Mackenzie Harvey took it upon themselves to build a partnership and they did. Sam Harper and Mackenzie Harvey played beautifully and stitched a 67-run stand before Harper fell. From thereon, it was a procession as they lost their next 9 wickets for 54 runs. Whoever came out to bat perished quickly and they were bowled out for just 111. They have had a torrid tournament with the bat and that has continued in this game as well. They are not out of the race for the top four yet but with this kind of performance, they look closer to bowing out.
That's it! A comprehensive win for the Strikers! They were just superb with the ball and have bundled out the Renegades for just 111 and have won the game by 60 runs. Another miserable performance from the Renegades and they sink further into trouble in this season of the BBL. All-in-all, a sorry performance from Aaron Finch's men!
