NZ vs IND ODI 5th ODI, - Commentary

Right then, what is next you ask? Match 44! It is between Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat, happening at Docklands Stadium, Melbourne. That game begins at 1915 Local (0815 GMT) on Tuesday, 19th January 2021. We hope to have your company for that game. Until then, take care and goodbye...

Ben McDermott is the Player of the Match. Feels good. Says that his side started slow with the ball. States that the wickets were a bit slower at the start. Feels that Daniel got the ball to grip a little. On the key to batting like McDermott, he smiles and says 'Swing hard'.

Earlier in the evening after putting Sydney Thunder to bat, Hurricanes started off slow with the ball but managed to find their way back in. They managed to restrict Sydney Thunder to 177. Thunder managed to reach that target after losing their way, courtesy a fifty from Sam Billings. The total though was not good enough for Syndey Thunder to end their losing rut. Scott Boland was the pick of the bowlers. Though he was expensive, his 4-fer tilted the game in his side's favour.

A major cause of concern for the green side from Sydney. They have succummbed to their 3rd loss in a row and have a lot to think about. They started off well with the ball with Milne striking in the very first ball of the innings. They also got the better of D'Arcy Short early. Thunder though were taken aback by McDermott's masterclass and Malan's class. All the bowlers barring Ben Cutting went for more than 9 rpo and when that happens it is difficult to defend 177. Sangha picked up 2 wickets but was expensive in his 4. The fielding too was sub par and when all these things are combined together, it is difficult to defend any target.

Chasing 178, Hobart Hurricanes got off to a nightmare start, losing both Jacks and Short early in the innings. It looked like an uphill battle for the side low on confidence. Ben McDermott and Dawid Malan though had other ideas. The pair stitched a super 109-run stand with the former taking the aggressor's role. Malan missed out on his fifty but that stand put his side in the driver's seat. McDermott carried on and though he missed his ton by 4 runs he did the job for his side and his magnificent knock was good enough to seal all the points in Hurricanes' way.

What an incredible batting display from Ben McDermott. Take a bow! He has played a superb knock, unfortunate that he did not get his 100 but his brilliant 96 was enough to end Hobart Hurricanes' 3-game losing run and get them back to winning ways.

Adam Milne to Peter Handscomb ,FOUR! And that is that. Hurricanes would be very happy with that. Shortish length delivery outside the off pole line, Handscomb moves to the on side, skips down the track and cuts it over point. AND HOBART HURRICANES WIN BY 6 WICKETS!

Adam Milne to Peter Handscomb ,FOUR! It is through. What a lovely shot. Full length delivery on the off pole, Milne misses his line here. Peter drives it down the ground, wide of mid on, and the ball races away to the long on boundary.

Tanveer Sangha to Tim David ,SIX! Tanveer Sangha goes for six runs in his last ball. Floated around off, David gets down and mows a huge slog sweep over deep mid-wicket.

Tanveer Sangha to Tim David ,NOT OUT! Asking for trouble are Hobart here. Full and around off, Tim looks to sweep but ends up mistiming it there. The ball falls on the short mid-wicket region. They look to take a quick single. The fielder there, at short mid-wicket, collects and throws the ball at the bowler's end. It is a direct hit and there is an appeal for a run out. The umpires refer it upstairs. Replays are in... looks very close. Hmm... the zoom angle comes in and it finds that the batsman has just grounded his bat as the ball hits the stumps there.

Run Out appeal taken upstairs. Direct hits are always closer than it looks. Tim David might be in trouble. Let's see what the replays have to say.

The new man in is Tim David.
