Harry Conway to Clint Hinchliffe, OUT! LBW! Harry Conway strikes for the Strikers and Melbourne Stars lose their opener early! This is a length ball, around middle and leg and nipping back in late. Clint Hinchliffe misses his heave on the leg side and gets hit on the inner half of his pad. Conway appeals and the umpire raises his dreaded finger. Conway would feel lucky here as it felt like the ball would have missed the leg stump by a mile. A wicket nonetheless for the Strikers. Incidentally, Strikers too lost their first wicket in a similar manner, that of Hunt, uncanny resemblance.

3.1

Harry Conway to Joe Clarke, SIX! BOOM! An off-pace delivery, around off. Joe Clarke skips down and smacks it way over the long on fence for a biggie. First maximum of the innings!

3.3

Harry Conway to Joe Clarke, FOUR! WHACKED! Conway bangs it into the deck, around off. Joe Clarke hangs back and pulls it in front of square to fetch himself a boundary.

5.4

Peter Siddle to Joe Burns, FOUR! Good effort from Matthew Short in the deep but he cannot prevent a boundary. Back of a length, well outside off. Joe Burns stands tall, rides the bounce nicely and cuts it past the point fielder. Short runs across to his left, puts in a dive just in front of the ropes but just as he looks to push the ball back in play with his left hand, his left shoulder touches the boundary ropes and it is signalled as a boundary.

7.5

Rashid Khan to Joe Burns, OUT! TAKEN! Rashid Khan picks up his first wicket of the game! He sends back Joe Burns cheaply. A loopy ball, change of pace this time from Rashid, on middle. Joe Burns gets down on his knee and miscues his slog-sweep to deep square leg. Henry Hunt there takes an easy catch. The Stars are in a spot of bother and they badly need a partnership now.

8.4

Matthew Short to Hilton Cartwright, FOUR! Quicker one again, at 101 kph, on middle. Hilton Cartwright skips down the track first delivery and nails it right back over the bowler's head for a boundary.

9.1

Fawad Ahmed to Joe Clarke, SIX! Joe Clarke wants the Bash Boost point it seems. Tossed up, on off. Clarke hangs deep and flat-bats it over the bowler's head and the ball flies over the long off fence.

9.4

Fawad Ahmed to Hilton Cartwright, SIX! 14 required for the Bash Boost point off 6 deliveries and the Stars get there with two balls to spare. Flighted ball, around off and drifted in. Hilton Cartwright absolutely smokes this one over the long on fence for a maximum.

11.1

Peter Siddle to Joe Clarke, FOUR! Dropped! Really tough chance to be honest. Siddle bangs it in short, around middle. Joe Clarke takes on the aggressive pull shot and connects well. The ball goes flat towards the square leg fence and the fielder is fairly inside the ropes. He tries to back peddle and gets a hand on it but drops it. The ball ends up in the boundary.

11.6

Peter Siddle to Hilton Cartwright, OUT! TAKEN! The skipper has done the trick for the Strikers as he breaks the partnership. Peter Siddle goes for another short ball, it is angled at the body this time. Hilton Cartwright makes a bit of room and it is at a good height to pull. Cartwright though mistimes it and the ball goes off the top edge. The ball is skied towards the square leg fence and this time Henry Hunt doesn't make any mistake. Is this the spark the Strikers needed?

4

12.2

Rashid Khan to Beau Webster, FOUR! Nails it this time! Another ball, fuller in length, around middle. Beau Webster presses forward and paddles it through the vacant fine leg region for a boundary.

4

17.1

Harry Conway to Joe Clarke, FOUR! Powerful from Clarke! Good-length ball, around off. Clarke just walks down the pitch and pulls it right back past the bowler. The fielder from long off can't cut it off and it's a boundary to start the 18th over.

6

17.6

Harry Conway to Joe Clarke, SIX! Is that the match? Conway bowls a gentle half-volley at the batter's pads. Joe Clarke is ready for it as he picks it up and lifts it well over the square leg fence for a maximum. 17 needed off 12 balls.

6

18.4

Peter Siddle to Joe Clarke, SIX! That should be the game! Siddle looks for the toe-crushing yorker but misses his mark. Joe Clarke thumps it right back over the bowler's head and clears the long on fence. 7 needed now off 8 deliveries.

W

18.5

Peter Siddle to Joe Clarke, OUT! TAKEN! Peter Siddle has the last laugh and is there a late twist in this match? After getting pumped for a maximum on the previous delivery, Siddle yet again looks for the yorker. He misses it yet again but this time there's not much pace on the ball. Joe Clarke looks to get the scores level as he looks to lift it over the long on fence. He gets the elevation but not the distance. Thomas Kelly composes himself at the long on fence and takes a good catch. 7 required off 7 now!

6

19.1

Matthew Short to Qais Ahmad, SIX! Bang! Where did that come from? Flatter delivery, angled across the off stump. Qais Ahmad channelizes his inner Rashid Khan and swats it hard. The ball clears the cow corner fence and what a hit that is! Scores level now.
