Earlier in the day, it was only entertainment delivered courtesy of Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Andre Russell. Both went bonkers and got one hand on the trophy already in the first half of the match but still, their bowlers bowled and made sure there was not a penny given to Delhi Bulls.
Half of the Gladiators' job was done by their batters. They just needed to flow with the momentum and they did exactly that. Odean Smith took wickets in quick succession early on and then Wanindu Hasaranga as always, showed his presence and also became the highest wicket-taker of the season with 21 wickets to his name. Tymal Mills later, with his slower balls got the job done for Deccan Gladiators. And Andre Russell picking up a wicket off the final delivery was the perfect fitting given the carnage and havoc he made earlier with the bat.
Anything above 150 was always going to be difficult to chase down, on top of that the pressure of being in the finals. It takes great courage to even come close to the margin but the Bulls lost by 56 runs. Apart from Chandrapaul Hemraj, no one even showed determination or chance for a close contest.
DECCAN GLADIATORS ARE THE WINNERS OF ABU DHABI T10, 2021. The flags are flying high, hugs all around the camp and the Gladiators have done the job in style. They came close in 2019 but failed to touch the beautiful trophy. But after two years, they have finally won their maiden title. Congratulations to Deccan Gladiators and commiseration to Delhi Bulls for showing a great spirit.
