3 Career Options For Virat Kohli Post Retirement
Kohli has already retired from T20Is and Test cricket, and now only plays ODI cricket for India
Everything that begins has to end, whether it’s something as boring as a Traffic rule documentary or it’s something as globally followed as Virat Kohli’s career.
After bidding adieu from T20I cricket post-winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, Kohli also said his goodbyes to Test cricket before India’s tour to England and the fans just couldn’t take it because it meant that India’s most high-profile, most beloved batter in the last decade or so will only play one format (ODIs) and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
When such quick developments happen, you can’t stop yourself from wondering what Kohli might do once he retires. While he’ll surely be looking after his kids and probably give his wife, Anushka Sharma, the space to return to her Bollywood career, let’s look at three career options for Kohli post-retirement.
Motivational Speaker/Author
Kohli is someone who speaks like he has not only just gobbled up every single motivational book to be written by hand, but also believes in their tenets and follows them daily. He has worked massively on his diction over the years, and as a result, he’s easily one of the best speakers in modern cricket right now.
More than that, he just knows which buttons to push in people. For instance, the way he invoked Test cricket right after winning the IPL for RCB and asked youngsters to take up the longest format, you know that he’s a man who understands the value his words carry. Hence, if he ever chooses to step out and pick up the mic, he’d be extremely good at it.
Business Tycoon
Kohli already has his own businesses, which can rival some of the best in their categories in India. Whether it's restaurants, insurance (Digit), or even the apparel business through Wrogn, Kohli has already built some quite successful brands.
Once he’s retired, Kohli can further expand on these and use his face as the brand to build and market his products. Once he can dedicate his full time to it, he can surely scale it up even more.
Cricket Manager/Coach
Kohli is not the kind of personality who would ever want to join a commentary box or an analytics show. But he’s certainly the kind of leader and thinker who can rally his troops and make people follow his lead, just like he did in India and RCB.
If politics and personal preferences are kept aside for a moment, no team would ever refuse a chance to have Kohli mentor the cricketers and show them the way to greatness. Very few cricketers in the world have transformed through fitness as much as Kohli, and if he decided to ever step into cricket management roles, the field would fit him like a glove.
