3 Players Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Could Release To Buy Cameron Green

Green will be the perfect fit for the Super Kings come IPL 2026

Cameron Green might not be playing in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) due to injury, but he’s guaranteed to be one of the most expensive players at the IPL 2026 mega auction, if not the most expensive player, due to what he brings to the table.

Green is a proven entity, an established all-rounder who is world-class, and CSK are in desperate need of more quality on the batting front. Thus Green will be the perfect fit for the Super Kings come the IPL 2026 auction. However, in order to secure the services of Green, CSK will need to release a few players to free up some cash.

We look at the players the Super Kings might potentially release to free up cash for Green.

Ravindra Jadeja

After getting retained for INR 18 crore, it might be a surprise to see Ravindra Jadeja’s name in this list. Not only is he a valuable all-rounder, Jadeja is also a CSK legend and an all-time great for the franchise. However, it makes all the sense in the world for the franchise to let him go due to the amount he was retained for.

This season, Jadeja is averaging 29 and striking at 126 with the bat and has been underwhelming as a finisher. However, the bigger concern is that he’s taken just 5 wickets with the ball in hand, and has not completed his quota of 4 overs even once.

Jadeja will turn 37 later this year and is not getting any younger. He is clearly someone past his best.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Another franchise legend who has proven to be an utter disappointment is Ravichandran Ashwin. Bought for a whopping 9.75 crore at the mega auction, Ashwin has taken just 5 wickets at an average of 45 and an economy of 9.3. And he’s been so bad that he had to be axed mid-way through the season before returning to the starting XI against Mumbai Indians.

Known for his powerplay prowess, Ashwin has been the worst powerplay bowler in IPL 2025, averaging 98 while going at over 12 runs per over.

Again, Ashwin isn’t going to get any better considering he is 38 now and will be 39 by the time IPL 2026 comes around. Releasing him to save money will make perfect sense.

Devon Conway

Someone who looks certain to get released is Devon Conway. The Kiwi opener looks to be past his peak, but, more importantly, he cost 6.25 crore. That’s just far too much for a 33-year-old accumulator. Releasing him is an easy way for CSK to save upwards of 6 crore.
