3 records MS Dhoni can set in IPL 2025

We look at 3 records that the former CSK and India skipper could set in IPL 2025

At the ripe and wise old age of 43, the legendary MS Dhoni will be turning up for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for yet another season in a few months’ time, during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL).

Dhoni, one of the IPL GOATs, got retained as an ‘uncapped player’ by CSK on the back of a rule tweak and thus will be out there on the field one more time, taking down the opponents through his smarts and hypnotizing fans with his aura.

But here’s the best part: IPL 2025 is all set to be a record-breaking season for the 43-year-old. We look at 3 records that the former CSK and India skipper could set in the forthcoming edition.

Oldest player to score an IPL fifty

43 years and 193 days old as of today, Dhoni will be flirting with 44 by the time IPL 2025 comes around. And should he score a fifty in the forthcoming season, he will become the oldest player in IPL history to have posted a 50+ score.

The current record belongs to Adam Gilchrist, who in 2013 scored 85* against RCB at 41 years and 181 days.

MS Dhoni’s last fifty came in March 2022, against KKR, at the age of 40 years and 262 days.

Highest run-getter for CSK in IPL history

This is not a record Dhoni ‘could’ break; it is a record Dhoni ‘will’ break. With 4,687 runs, Suresh Raina is currently the highest run-getter for CSK in the IPL.

However, Dhoni (4669) is just 18 runs away from Raina and will need just 19 more runs to become the outright highest run-getter for CSK in IPL history.

He could very well end up doing this in CSK’s very first game of the season.

First wicketkeeper to inflict 200 dismissals in IPL history

MS Dhoni inflicts a dismissal in IPL 2024

With 190 dismissals in his name, Dhoni is already the most successful wicketkeeper in IPL history. But if he inflicts 10 more dismissals, the 43-year-old will become the first WK in the competition’s history to inflict 200 dismissals.

He might, in fact, end up being the only player ever to inflict 200+ dismissals. Among active wicketkeepers, the second on the list currently is Rishabh Pant, and he just has 95 dismissals to his name.
