Since its inception, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has had a total of 771 players feature in the competition, out of which only three have been Zimbabweans. That being said, there have been Zimbabwe players who have been part of IPL squads but not the actual starting XI. Case in point, Blessing Muzarabani, who was roped in as a replacement by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) towards the end of IPL 2025, but did not play a game.
You probably remember Sikandar Raza playing in the IPL, but do you know THESE 3 Zimbabweans were also part of IPL franchises?
You might be thinking, ‘Brendan Taylor? IPL? When did that happen? Believe it or not, the Zimbabwean batting superstar was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the IPL 2014 auction for his base price of 30 lakh. This was at a time when Taylor was at his absolute best in white-ball cricket, especially ODIs, where he averaged over 40 for four consecutive years.
Taylor was signed at the auction alongside the likes of David Warner, Aaron Finch, Bhunveshwar Kumar and others.
However, the SRH squad being so stacked meant that he never got to play a game that season. Taylor never got picked in the IPL after that as well.
Tatenda Taibu is one of the most popular Zimbabwean players of all time, and he was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the inaugural season in 2008. Taibu was bought for $125,000, which was his base price.
He made his debut against RCB at the Eden Gardens and actually went on to play three games in total.
However, the former captain and wicketkeeper could only manage 31 runs at an average of 10 and strike rate of 119. In fact, he ended his IPL career without hitting a single six.
One of the most witty and skilful left-arm spinners of the early 2000s, Ray Price played for the Mumbai Indians (MI).
That’s right, he was signed as a replacement for the injured Moises Henriques by MI during the 2011 season. $50,000 was what the left-arm spinner was signed for.
