4 factors (and Hulk Stoinis) that shaped LSG's historic win in Chennai

Missed the clash? Damn, you missed history as LSG chase down the highest total in Chennai

Rahane, Mitchell continue to struggle

After Rachin Ravindra was dropped, the onus was on Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell to strike big, but he failed. Rahane scored just 1 (3), while Mitchell, promoted to No.3, could only score 11 off 10, which meant Ravindra Jadeja walked out again in the powerplay.

Jadeja had a night to forget, with 16 off 19; the less said about the innings, the better.

Gaikwad-Dube turn the screw

At 101/3 in 11.5 overs, Shivam Dube had to combine with Ruturaj Gaikwad. The duo sized up all the bowlers, scoring 104 off 46 deliveries. It was carnage from Dube, who scored a 27-ball 66 with seven sixes.

Meanwhile, skipper Gaikwad notched up the first century for a CSK skipper, creating history and taking CSK to 210 after 20 overs. It was quite a partnership

Devdutt Padikkal’s misery continues

Last six IPL innings: 13, 3, 7, 6, 9, 0

Chasing 210, LSG needed quite an impact from their impact player Devdutt Padikkal. But Padikkal’s knock (13 off 19) took the win probability for LSG from 57% to an all-time low of 43%.

During his stay at the crease, the southpaw scored 13 off 19 balls in a boundary-less knock, nullifying Jadeja’s terrible knock earlier in the day. While it was a double-digit score, it was the worst possible knock in such a run chase.

Marcus ‘Hulk’ Stoinis

First innings at No.3 in the IPL for LSG, and what does Marcus Stoinis do? Create history, becoming the highest run scorer in a chase in IPL history, scoring a 63-ball 124.

It was the highest score in a run chase and the highest run chase at Chepauk, breaking CSK’s three-match winning streak.

Mustafizur’s off day in Chennai

When Mustafizur removed KL Rahul, he hoped that his night went well, giving only five runs. But in a turn of events, the left-arm seamer conceded 47 runs in his next 15 deliveries, the biggest differentiating factor at the death.

With dew playing a huge role, Mustafizur struggled to bowl the yorkers, resulting in way too many half-volleys (5), conceding runs at 16.8 in that length. It was way too short whenever he bowled short, with an economy of 20.4.
