5 records that Virat Kohli can set in IPL 2025
We look at 5 records that Virat Kohli can set or break during IPL 2025
Not many players come close to Virat Kohli’s consistency in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Such has been his dominance with the bat, that Kohli has become the only batter in IPL history to amass 8000 runs.
He’s also the only player in IPL history to score eight hundreds. People might write him off based on his form in the other formats, but come IPL, expect Kohli, who is also likely to be back as RCB’s captain, to break records for fun.

We look at 5 such records that Kohli can break in IPL 2025:
Most 50+ scores in IPL history
Virat Kohli is just three 50+ scores away from breaking David Warner’s all-time IPL record. The Australian opener has the most 50+ scores in IPL history (66), and Kohli has a serious chance of breaking the record and setting a new benchmark for the future.
There’s a strong chance that Kohli (55) can surpass Warner’s record number of IPL fifties (62).
Only captain to score 5000 IPL runs
Kohli is already the leading run-scorer for runs as an IPL skipper. But if he returns as a captain for RCB (as rumoured), he has a chance to become the only captain in IPL history to notch up 5000 runs. He’s just six runs away from the milestone, and could get there in RCB's first game of the season.
Most outfield catches in IPL
Kohli needs only five catches to surpass former RCB superstar AB de Villiers’ record for most outfield catches (118) in IPL history. The 36-year-old took eight catches last year, putting him within touching distance of the record. But come IPL 2025, he is certain to break it.
First player in IPL to hit 1000 boundaries (4s + 6s)
1000 boundaries. That’s quite a benchmark, and Kohli isn’t too far from setting that unique record.
Currently on 977 boundaries (705 fours & 272 sixes), the right-hander could get to that landmark in IPL 2025, needing just 23 boundaries. No one is even remotely close to him.
Only Indian to score 13000 T20 runs
Kohli might have retired from T20Is, but his hunger is such that he is just touching distance of becoming the first Indian batter to score 13000 T20 runs, needing just 293 runs from the IPL 2025 season to get to that record.
In case you were wondering, Rohit is second on the list, with 11490 runs, showing why Kohli’s run-scoring record is so tough to break.
