After India's Postponement Of Bangladesh Tour, Tigers Set To Play Historic Series
The two teams first played against each other in 2012-13
India postponed their tour of Bangladesh from August 2025 to an undefined time, sometime next year. This has now forced Bangladesh to revive a series that was earlier put under the table due to time constraints on the part of the Tigers.
Bangladesh were supposed to entertain Afghanistan for a historic series, which would have been an all-format tour in 2024. The matches were then shifted to July, with only the white-ball formats being a part of it.
Now, it seems that the two teams will clash in October, if media reports are to be believed. The series will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and mark the first time Afghanistan has hosted Bangladesh for a T20I series.
"We are in discussion with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) regarding the white-ball series comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is that were rescheduled earlier in 2024,” Shahriar Nafees, former Bangladesh opener and current Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)’s cricket operations in charge was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
“We will be playing the remaining two Test matches at some other time that suits both the boards," Nafees added, confirming that the original all-format series is still on.
Both teams have been playing T20s against each other since 2013, but it is after 12 years that Bangladesh will play a bilateral series against the Afghans, which will be hosted in the UAE, Afghanistan’s new home turf.
The last time these two teams played a bilateral series hosted by Afghanistan was in Greater Noida, India, in 2018.
"Though the venue is yet to be finalised, the series is likely to be played in the coming October (2025) if everything goes as per plan," he said. "Earlier, we also played three ODIs against Afghanistan, but that was not part of the tour that was rescheduled for 2024," Nafees informed.
More recently, Bangladesh toured the UAE for a three-match T20I series, which the hosts won 2-1.
