Agarkar confirmed as Delhi Capitals' assistant coach

The former Indian pacer will join the team after India's series against Sri Lanka

Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Ajit Agarkar as the assistant coach ahead of the 2022 edition.

The former Indian pacer played 26 Tests, 191 ODIs and four T20Is and claimed 349 wickets across all formats. In the IPL, he appeared for Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Agarkar, who is on the commentators' panel for India's home series against Sri Lanka, will join DC after the end of the series.

"I am very excited to be part of Delhi Capitals squad for this season. I have been lucky enough to be a player and to be returning in a different capacity. It's obviously very exciting. We have a young and terrific squad led by one of the most talented players in the world - Rishabh Pant," Agarkar said.

The former pacer hailed DC head coach Ricky Ponting.

"And the coach Ricky Ponting has been a legend of the game. Looking forward to working with them, can't wait to get started and creating some special memories."

On Tuesday, reports suggested that Australian allrounder Shane Watson is set to join as another assistant coach. DC's current coaching staff includes Ponting, assistant coach Pravin Amre and bowling coach James Hopes.
