Akash Madhwal joins MI as Suryakumar’s replacement

Earlier in the week, Mumbai Indians were jolted by the injury to their star batter, Suryakumar Yadav. While Mumbai find themselves at the foot of the IPL 2022 table, there was a real chance for the franchise to move up the table, owing to their recent run in the competition. 

The five-time IPL winning franchise has announced that Uttarakhand’s pacer Akash Madhwal joins the Mumbai camp as a replacement for the injured Mumbaikar. In Suryakumar’s absence, Mumbai have thus far fielded the talented Ramandeep Singh, who has stepped up with the bat and the ball. 

“Mumbai Indians (MI) have signed Akash Madhwal as a replacement for batter Suryakumar Yadav who was ruled out of the TATA IPL 2022 owing to a left forearm muscle injury,” read a statement from the IPL. 

"Akash was chosen at the MI pre-season camp to join the support team and has, over the months, demonstrated his ability with the ball, earning him the opportunity to join the squad this season," MI stated on their website.

Madhwal has played 15 T20s, picking up 15 wickets at an average of 25.60, and will join the franchise at the base price of INR 20 lakh.
