The Indian team has attracted controversy yet again over ball change in the third Test, after it was a hotly contested issue in the first two Test matches.
The second new ball, available to India after 80 overs, went out of shape quickly in just 10.4 overs. India asked for a ball change in the 91st over, which was granted by the umpires as the ball was unable to pass through the frame used by the umpires to check its shape.
However, the replacement ball that was given to India looked much more than 10 overs old, and Indian skipper Shubman Gill wasn’t satisfied with it. He had a heated exchange with umpire Saikat Sharfuddoula over the state of the ball given to India, but the umpire just sent him away.
Pacer Mohammed Siraj also expressed his anger over the state of the ball as well, and was heard saying, “This is a 10-over-old ball? Seriously?” on the stump mic.
Notably, Rishabh Pant has already been reprimanded over his protests on the condition of the ball in the first Test, and the Indian skipper can now get the same slap on his wrists if the on-field umpires choose to lodge a complaint against him.
