Another England Pacer Injured Ahead Of India Test Series
The right-armer got injured during the one-off four-day Test against Zimbabwe
England paceman Gus Atkinson has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies, starting on May 29 (Thursday), due to a hamstring injury. However, team management expects him to be fit for the upcoming Test series against India. The five-match series will get underway on June 20 at Leeds.
The right-arm pacer got injured during the one-off four-day Test against Zimbabwe, which England won by an innings and 45 runs. "He will now undergo a period of rehabilitation under the supervision of the England medical team," ECB said in a release.
Atkinson, who made his Test debut in July 2024, has an outstanding record in red-ball cricket. The 27-year-old has featured in 12 Tests and claimed 55 wickets at an average of 22.30. He also has 352 runs at an average of 23.46.
England have replaced him with left-arm seamer Luke Wood for the West Indies series. Brydon Carse (toe injury) and Chris Woakes (ankle) also missed the game against Zimbabwe but are now fit and available. Meanwhile, Mark Wood has been ruled out of the entire India series.
