Anshul Kamboj is making his debut for India in the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester. The right-handed seamer from Haryana was given the Cap No. 318 before England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first on a cloudy Day 1.
Apart from Kamboj, India have also added Sai Sudharsan and Shardul Thakur to their XI for the must-win Test. Karun Nair has been dropped, while Nitish Kumar Reddy and Akash Deep are injured. India are currently trailing 2-1 in the five-match series.
Kamboj was added to the Indian squad after Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep were ruled out of the fourth Test. The 24-year-old has 79 wickets in 24 first-class games at an average of 22.88 and a strike rate of 44.2.
Kamboj was brilliant in the Ranji Trophy 2024/25, claiming 34 wickets across six games at an average of 13.8. He even picked up 10 wickets in an innings against Kerala.
Kamboj also played two red-ball games for India A against England Lions before the main series. He took five wickets @ 26.2 and also scored 76 runs at an average of 38.
He now becomes the first Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player to make his international debut under Gautam Gambhir’s management.
Gambhir was appointed India’s head coach on July 9, 2024. Tushar Deshpande made his T20I debut in Zimbabwe on July 13 last year, but it was VVS Laxman who had travelled with the squad. Gambhir started his tenure during the tour of Sri Lanka, which started on July 27.
Meanwhile, England announced their XI on July 21, with Liam Dawson making his return in place of injured Shoaib Bashir.
