NEWSAll-rounder Liam Livingstone and leg-spinner Matt Parkinson have been included
England announce 14-man squad for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against India. As expected, Jofra Archer misses out as he returns to the UK to deal with his elbow injury. Test captain Joe Root too does not feature in the squad. However, all-rounder Liam Livingstone and leg-spinner Matt Parkinson have been included. Chris Jordan and Dawid Malan, who played all five matches of the T20 International (T20I) series have been named in the reserves, along with fast bowler Jake Ball.
As a result of Archer's injury, he will also miss the start of IPL 2021. "The ECB medical team will assess the player and, together with Jofra, develop a treatment plan and a return-to-play schedule in due course. As a consequence, Jofra will miss the start of this year's Indian Premier League," according to Cricbuzz.
Archer was named IPL 2020's Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his 20 wickets at an economy rate of 6.55 for Rajasthan Royals, who finished at the bottom of the table.
Parkinson made his ODI debut last February in South Africa, while Liam Livingstone and Reece Topley join the team's 50-over squad after they were overlooked for the previous home series against Australia. Root, who played in that series, led England in the Test series in India before the limited-overs leg, has not scored a fifty in his last 10 ODI innings.
All three ODIs will be played between March 23 and 28 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
